Create and launch your first campaign

Pick leads, write the sequence, set the schedule and launch.

Updated 20 October 2026

A campaign is a sequence of steps sent to a list of leads, each step a few days after the last. Follow-ups reply in the same email thread as the first email.

  1. Open Campaigns and click Build manually. (Create with AI starts a guided set-up from a description of who you want to reach.)
  2. Name: give the campaign a name only you will see.
  3. Leads: tick the leads to include.
  4. Sequence: write the first email's subject and body. Use placeholders such as {{firstName}} and {{company}}, or click Generate with AI for a draft in your voice. Add more steps with Add email, Add breakup email, Add LinkedIn step or Add WhatsApp step, and set Wait N days between steps. Leave a follow-up's subject blank to reply in the same thread.
  5. Schedule: choose Send from, your Timezone, Sending days and a Start time and End time. Keep Pause on reply and Pause on bounce on.
  6. Review & Launch: check the summary and click Create campaign. This saves it as a draft and opens the campaign page.
  7. On the campaign page, check Sending inboxes, then click Launch campaign. Sending starts inside your schedule window.

Good to know

When you launch, Outly checks the list. Addresses marked invalid are left out. If half or more of the leads have never been verified, you are asked to confirm first, because unchecked addresses can hurt your domain's reputation.

LinkedIn steps don't send anything on LinkedIn. They create a task with a prepared note and the lead's profile link for you to send yourself. WhatsApp steps send approved WhatsApp Cloud API templates to leads who opted in, and create a task for everyone else.

Tip

Once it is running, Pause and Resume are on the campaign page. Process due sends sends anything that is due right now instead of waiting for the next scheduled run.

Vary your wording with spintax

In an email's subject or body, write options in braces separated by a bar, such as {Hi|Hello} {there|{{firstName}}}. Each lead gets one option from every group, and always the same one, so a retry or a follow-up never changes what they saw. Groups can sit inside other groups, and placeholders like {{firstName}} work inside them. Click Preview a random version under the step to see one result. If a brace is left open or closed twice, the step shows what is wrong and the sequence can't be saved until you fix it.

A/B test an email

Click Add variant on an email step to write a second version (and a third, if you like), each with its own subject and body. Leads are split evenly between the versions, and each lead keeps the version they were given. Delete a variant with the x on its tab; one version always stays. Follow-ups that leave the subject blank reply under whichever subject that lead actually received.

Results appear in the campaign's A/B results tab: sent, replies, positive replies and reply rate for each variant. A reply counts for the last email the lead got before replying. Outly doesn't pick a winner for you, and with small numbers a single reply can swing the rate, so let a test run before you change the copy.
